JEMUN 2019 Volume 3 | Page 58

The delegate of India, Mr. William Chapple from Ritsumeikan Uji High School, was interviewed first about his committee topic, water management. He described his country’s situation where the state is facing serious insufficient water supplies due to droughts. The country is trying to involve the civil society, by establishing a new parliament for water management. However, the delegate also said that the issue is too serious and that India does not have the capacity to tackle the issue alone. So, he is asking for support from the international community and the UN at this MUN.

The delegate of India also showed awareness to the progress of climate change, and promised the continuous commitment to solve the global issue by minimizing the effects of climate change.

The delegate of Fiji, Mr. Sean Sano from Doshisha International High School, was the second to be interviewed. He emphasized the awareness of his country towards climate change.

“Fiji can see climate change and other nations are actually being affected by it.”

He described specific effects from climate change in his country, such as sea level rise, where ocean water is threatening the shores of the small island country.

These two nations emphasized the importance of recognizing the fact that the entire world is being affected by climate change, and the awareness among citizens and states is necessary in order to tackle this global issue.
