Dr. Giles Sioen sat down with delegates and the media to discuss sustainable cities and resilience to disasters on day two of the 2019 JEMUN conference in Osaka. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability and a Science Officer based in Future Earth’s Global Hub Japan, coordinating the Future Earth Urban and Health Knowledge-Action Networks. He holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability Science from the University of Tokyo, a master’s in Urban Design and Planning from Luca-Arts at KU Leuven, and a bachelor’s degree in Garden and Landscape Architecture from the University College Ghent. His current research focuses on a model-based approach using systems thinking for trans-disciplinary decision making to help bridge the gap between strategy and implementation.
