The Effects of Climate-Related Disasters on Children and Possible Solutions
On the morning of July 14th there was a presentation delivered by Ms. Akiko Takai, one of the invited speakers to Japan English Model United Nations (JEMUN) 2019 at Kindai University. The presentation aimed to explain the crises typically faced by children due to climate change and suggested what people can do for vulnerable children.
Ms. Takai used to be a technical expert at the HIV department of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Later, she started working for Save the Children Japan, which identifies local children in need and provides humanitarian aid. Having years of working experience in both an international organization and a local association, Ms. Takai had much to share when it comes to children’s suffering in disasters.
