Tzedek Box Opening at the Virginia Holocaust Museum
Virginia Holocaust Museum 2000 E Cary St , Richmond , VA 23224
Middle Schoolers from a variety of synagogues and schools across the community came together at the Weinstein JCC to form their own concepts of Tikkun Olam while responding to this year ’ s Global Day of Jewish theme of “ rebuilding .”
Based on the concept of HUC rabbinical student Dr . Andrew Kaplan Mandel , students created interactive Tzedek Boxes in which reflections of acts of Tikkun Olam are recorded and submitted on an ongoing basis . The Tzedek Boxes were included as an interactive part of the Weinstein JCC ’ s Global Day of Jewish Learning event and were later moved to the Virginia Holocaust Museum . In the spring we will gather to ceremonially open the Tzedek Boxes to read the submitted reflections and acts of Tikkun Olam , highlighting the importance of each righteous act , while encouraging future reflection and action .
