Pre-Fins Group
Instructor : Aquatics Staff Ages : 5-8
Pre-fins is a great way to keep your child active this year while introducing them to the Dolphin Club swim team program ! Practices are run as a hybrid between a swim team practice and group swim lessons . This gives the swimmers more personal attention from our coaches to improve their strokes , while also giving them a taste of the competitive swimming world . We will be holding fun intrasquad meets at the JCC throughout the year . The Pre-fins program emphasizes learning , fitness , and fun !
Pre-Fin swimmers will learn the basics of all 4 competitive strokes in an encouraging atmosphere . The coaches focus on teaching proper stroke technique , introducing starts and turns , and developing the joy of swimming using games , activities , and challenges . The interpersonal skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming also will be taught – working with teammates , following directions , listening to the coaches , and having fun .
Participation in swim meets is a family ’ s / swimmer ’ s choice . Coaches will assess each swimmer to make sure they are ready to compete and will only enter them in events they are eligible to swim .
Practice Recommendations :
Two practices a week are recommended but not required . Each practice session lasts 45 minutes . Swimmers can expect to work up to swimming 500 to 1,000 yards per practice session .
Pre-requisite for the Pre-Fin Group : Able to complete a 25-yard freestyle and backstroke without assistance
