Our Recreation Department offers a wide variety of individual and team sports, as well as instructional classes for children, youth mental, emotional and social development in a competitive setting. Good sportsmanship and safety are always emphasized!

Jr. NBA
Instructor: Sports and Rec Staff Grades: Preschool- Grade 5 8-week session- Arenstein Gym Class size: 40
We’ re playing basketball!
JR NBA is a program where children from preschool-5th grade can focus on the fundamentals of basketball. From dribbling, passing, shooting, lay ups, rebounding, and defense. This program instills teamwork, good sportsmanship, skill development, safety and most importantly, FUN! The start of the season will begin with a skill evaluation to get a sense of each child’ s skill level and to make the teams as even as possible. Practices and games will be held weekly on Sundays starting Sunday, January 16th. Safety protocols have been put into place for this season, so numbers are limited.
January 9th- February 27th – January 9th is skill evaluation for K-5. Preschool is excluded from skill evaluation.

Wednesdays January 12th- March 2nd
In this instructional league, participants will learn the basics of many sports, such as Soccer, Basketball, Pickleball, and more. They will take part in age-appropriate activities such as basic skills, movements, and agility. Throughout this program, they will also learn sportsmanship and basic rules of each game.

Seeking Youth Athletes for JCC Maccabi Games ®!
JCC Maccabi was created to provide Jewish youth, ages 13-16 years old, with a supportive environment that fosters mutual respect and sportsmanship, where they can interact in an atmosphere of fun, democracy, and peace. Participants cultivate a deeper understanding and instill an appreciation of Jewish values within Jewish youth, enrich their Jewish identity in an informal setting, and encourage their identification with the state of Israel.
The JCC Maccabi Games ® is the largest Jewish youth event in the world. From July 31 – August 5, 2022, the Lawrence Family JCC in San Diego will welcome visiting Jewish teens from across the globe. The JCC Maccabi Games ® promotes and encourages the health, physical fitness and wellbeing of Jewish youth through participation in recreational and athletic activities. The activities for this year’ s games are: Basketball, Dance, Soccer, and Swimming!
Participants will learn the values of teamwork, integrity, cultural pride and community service while expanding an appreciation of Jewish values, connection to the community, enriching their Jewish identities, improving their overall health and well-being and building lifelong friendships.
