An Increased Capacity
When hospitals were instructed by the government this spring to increase capacity in anticipation of a surge , JBH was the first in the province to build a Pandemic Response Unit ( PRU ), an external all-season field hospital structure . It is designed specifically to care for stable COVID-19 positive patients who have mild to moderate
COVID-19 Assessment Centre
Your support enabled JBH to respond quickly and transition space into one of the province ’ s first hospital COVID-19 assessment and testing centers . JBH also set-up a drive-thru testing clinic to increase capacity and convenience for our community . Through continuous process improvements and digital technology enablers , the assessment and testing center expanded its offerings to perform up to 350 tests per day . symptoms and require care and support that cannot be provided at home . For example , they may require oxygen therapy and medication , as well as ongoing monitoring of their symptoms and personal support .
JBH is now 1 of 4 hospitals in our region designated to care for COVID-19 patients , and the PRU remains a vital part of the regional COVID-19 Model of Care Strategy . The PRU will serve as a regional resource and will help manage patient volume fluctuations , resulting in increased demand for COVID-19 care while minimizing any potential disruption of scheduled care across the region .
