The Grapevine Issue 172 2014|
As the Summer Fades
With so many activities going on
during the Summer, it has been
difficult to know where to look. Jávea
has been full of events and tourists
and visitors and seasonal residents.
These photos are from the last
evening of the International Jazz
Festival featuring Christian Scott
(above) and Braxton Cook (left). We
have a few more and some music for
you later in the Magazine.
The Front Cover is likely to cause
some discussion - but for me is an
integral part of understanding the
deep-rooted traditions of my home
town and its people - and the Bull
Run into the sea.
Later in the magazine are a few more
ghostly photos taken on the The August Night Walk in the Pueblo (yes, I
did it again). The biggest advantage
of getting fitter is I am wandering
about with my camera more and am
gradually building up a great portfolio of places and events - I certainly
appreciate www.javeamigos.com even more - I have to say in the heat
of August, hats off to Fay and Mike
from Javeamigos as they have
been tireless and everywhere and
seem to have taken amazing photos
of everything.
The sales have started before even
before the pool has cooled - so now
is definitely the time to support our local businesses where you can.
With Valencia’s arbitrary ban of the
firework display, which traditionally
closes the Duanes del Mar fiestas in
honor of Our Lady of Loreto, there
must have been many disappointed visitors and restaurateurs whose
bookings were unseasonably down.
Our Town Hall tried to find a solution,
but Valencia was not co-operative.
The Mascletas were an excellent
substitute and we have some photos
from processions on the last day.
I was interviewed twice during the
Summer - first about the magazines
and Javea - by Pilar Orti from Spain
Uncovered and the second by Gill
Henry - from Total FM was more
personal - about my experiences
with Cancer in Spain. Hope to catch
you again in October, when we will
include a peek inside all the new
Grapevine Titles that will have launch
ed by then
