Here are two very simple constructions which will give your Spanish
‘wings’. One will get you talking about the future & the other about what
someone is doING right now!
First the ‘future’ construction. This is such a simple way of talking about
the future, to say ‘I’m going to …………………………..’
When I was first learning Spanish, I thought that my Spanish teacher
must be teaching us to ‘cheat’ a bit, because this was so easy!! But then
a few days later I heard some Spanish neighbours using this construction
& I realised that the Spanish use it too!
First you need to know the verb IR – to go
IR – TO GO
VOY
VAS
VA
I go
you go
he/she goes
VAMOS
VÁIS
VAN
we go
you all go
they go
When you know that, you just add ‘a’ & the full form (infinitive) of the
verb that describes what you are going to do.
IR

FULL FORM OF VERB
So, if I want to say ‘I’m going to swim in the pool’ I say
Voy a nadar en la piscina
Are they going to go to school?
¿Van a ir al colegio?
& negative – We’re not going to sing that song!
¡No vamos a cantar esa canción!

Now the ‘present continuous’ – what someone is doing right now - or as
we often say in my classes – INGing it!
