EMAUS Altea also run a Residencia for older people. An emergency help-line for the elderly living on their own and an occupational workshops for teenagers was closed last year due to lack of funding. “Friends of the Children of Emaús” is a registered charity started ten years ago by a group of friends in Calpe who got together to form a registered, non-profit making Association (registration G-54138805) to raise additional funds exclusively for the Children within the various EMAUS houses. The Association was founded by, and is still led, by Carole Saunders. It is the only registered association who fund raise solely for the Children cared for by Emaús. EMAÚS Altea has a contract to run the Association with the Generalitat of Valencia. This is paid every two months but is never enough. The rest has to come from charitable donation and yet EMAUS as an organisation do no charitable fundraising themselves; they rely very much on the efforts of local organisations; some wonderful fundraisers who spread themselves about and also support several other charities throughout the year here on the Costa Blanca.  The exception is Friends of the Children of Emaús (FCEmaus) who do nothing but fundraise just for the 100 children in the 0 to 18 age group.
