50th Anniversary of the
Nazarene Celebration
The fiftieth anniversary of the appoint-
ment of the Nazarene as perpetual may-
or of Javea, was celebrated in October.
Hundreds of people participated in the
events organized by both the CofradÃa
and the City Council.
Mayor, Jose Chulvi was accompanied
by the exalcaldes Enrique Bas, Jaime
Sapena and Juan Bautista Moragues
(Eduardo Monfort could not be pres-
ent but he showed his support).
In the afternoon, a solemn Eucharist
was celebrated in San Bartolomé and a
well-attended pilgrimage accompanied
the patron of the Xabieros to the Calva-
ry hermitage, where it will remain until
next Lent. This event closed an intense
year of devotion to the Nazarene, since
2017 has celebrated the 250th anniver-
sary of the arrival of the Image to the
municipality and 50 years as perpetual
mayor, a symbolic appointment that is
reflected in the stick of command that
is laid at his feet.
