to adopt measures to control visits to avoid damages . Its beauty and nature , means that the Cova Tallada undergoes great human pressure in the summer months .

The mayor has offered to collaborate with the City of Dénia ( although the Cova Tallada in Xàbia , one of the most used entry routes comes from Dénia ) and the Montgó Natural Park to make managing easier visitors . Moreover , the mayor has agreed that this measure is in the line of sustainable planning actions initiated last year from Xàbia , such as the marking of caves , to avoid overexploitation of the natural and landscape values of the municipality .

Last year , a staff of the Montgó Natural Park , who took a guided tour of these cliffs , found a pillar candle dating from the 11th century ( in the Soler Blasco Museum there is another similar one found years ago ) and in good condition . This finding was notified to the Consell and motivated the inspection of the place by technicians of the Department of Culture and Heritage , who certified the interest of this natural cave that , at least from the 16th century , was exploited as quarry of the typical rough stone used in local architecture including emblematic buildings like the fortress church of Sant Bertoméu , the Castell of Dénia & the windmills of the Cap de Sant Antoni . On the walls of the Cova Tallada are vestiges of the system devised in the Middle Ages for the extraction of ashlars and for their size or auxiliary elements for the task of the masons , in addition to documented remains seem to indicate that the cave has been in use since the eleventh century . There are also two graffiti that outline the visit of the kings Felipe III and Carlos III , which will be the object of study by the Culture Dept . to confirm its authenticity .
