REVIEWS Children’s Book Club Board books are so beautiful these days. The designs of the books, the details included in the illustrations all point to the fact that the people behind these books really do put a lot of effort into ensuring that the books provide a rich stimulating experience for young children. As a general guide, when you’re reading, stay for some time on each illustration, name objects, name colours, animate words – if children are skipping, stop and skip too. If an animal or object in an illustration reminds your child of a nursery rhyme, then stop and sing the nursery rhyme. You’ll find that that little book soon becomes a fun, interactive experience. And the books work together, line upon line, precept upon precept, you can use concepts learnt from one book to reinforce the concepts learnt in another. Great for building vocabulary, two-way communication and let’s not forget, extra special warmth as you read together! Enjoy! JASMINE'S PLACE 22
