around, and they are smart enough
to know how fierce winters can be.
They know hotel chains need to
make money year round.
The residents don’t want vacant,
abandoned businesses ruining the
rustic look of their villages. Instead,
visitors will find local sub shops,
pizzerias, and diners across the
mountains.
Because of the vast territory and very
rural terrain, visiting is best done by
car. The closest airport is in the
state’s capital of Albany. Amtrak
offers “The Adirondack,” a daily trip
from NYC, through the Hudson
Valley, and ending in Montreal, or in
reverse order. No matter how you
travel to the area and where you
stay, prepare for a scenic, beautiful
stay.
Don’t forget your camera!
I worked hard to make my
Surrendering Time series
Adirondack authentic, and was
so pleased when I met with
readers at the Speculator library
to hear they found my work
accurate.
