encouragement.
I explained as difficult as it was, there
was a reason he was at that campus,
those classes, this semester, for
“such a time as this.” I prayed it
would be revealed to help him, but I
admitted there was no guarantee. I
challenged him to look for that
purpose and to trust God in the now,
just as He directs his future steps.
It didn’t take long before he had a
group project where they had to
interview each other. It was up to the
interviewer to discern what was
important to share with the others
when it was time to present.
When it was time for the group to
explain everything about our son, the
professor interjected.
He went on to explain the different
ways the church helped the
community from putting on a
Broadway quality Passion Play to a
drive through coffee and prayer
ministry every week.
A hand raised and a young man who
introduced himself as an atheist
pointed toward our son. “If I were to
believe, that’s what I would want my
faith to look like. He doesn’t just talk
about it, he lives it.”
As my son replayed the conversation,
we both had a revelation. Perhaps
that was the very reason he was at
that campus. For that class. For that
moment. Because weeks later, he
was accepted into the next semester
at the closer campus that was a little
smaller.

“Does he go to church?”
The students didn’t know.
Our son answered that he did. The
professor asked if he had a
denomination he was associated
with. When Brian told her, she
stopped the class. “You missed a
major piece of information. His
church affiliation is important.”
With that, she took over the
interview. She asked if he served in
any capacity, he told the class he
played drums as part of the praise
team.

relief and deliverance will arise for
the Jews from another place and you
and your father’s house will perish.
And who knows whether you have
not attained royalty for such a time
as this?” Esther 4:14-15, NASB
