One-to-one mentoring support is also
given, so each child has a personal
development and career plan. This
ensures their education plays a
leading role giving them a focus to
meet their targets. The final element
of the project enables health support
interventions, including health checks
and screenings to prevent ill health,
for example, dental checks and
nutritional screenings.
FREE Study Support
In March 2014, we started our FREE
GGF weekly study support group in
Ibadan, Nigeria at the Oba Akinyele
Secondary school. According to the
Vice Principal of the school, 80% of
the students cannot afford to buy
their school books or pay for their
West African Examination Council
(WAEC) exams. The aim of this
project is to support SS3 (equivalent
to UK Year 11) students in various
state schools as they prepare for
their WAEC exams. The beneficiaries
are also provided with light
refreshments and educational kits.
Girlz Empowered
The overall aim of the Girlz
Empowered programme is to help
young ladies to develop a healthy
self-esteem and an understanding of
their own significance in the world.
In April 2014 we launched the Girlz
Empowered initiative in Nigeria. The
focus of this work is the prevention of
teenage pregnancy and rehabilitation
of teenage mums in target areas. Our
goal is to also reduce the number of
teenage mums in our target areas
who end up as sex workers.
