Who are you and Where are you from?
I am Monique Koll, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Lafayette, Louisiana, though I am originally from New Orleans and went to LSU. Two years ago I was hit from behind by an unlicensed driver whilst training for a triathlon, breaking my neck. This resulted in a spinal cord injury, two months of hospitalization, and several months in a wheelchair. Not one to sit back and let terrible things forever destroy my life I have become highly involved in bicycle advocacy and safety, which with my Type A personality and love for my community has recently led to my hiring as the first Executive Director for BikeLafayette. I hold the at-large position on the Lafayette Bicycle Subcommittee, and I have also recently become involved in statewide bicycle and "vulnerable road user" advocacy.
What type of bicycling interests you?
Racing! I've learned a lot more about bicycles than I ever knew after getting this involved on a broader level, but racing of any type is what gets me excited. Triathlons especially.
