“ Tax Advantage” is not necessarily an oxymoron!

If you have recently bought or sold a home, there are a few tax advantages that may be available to you. Generally speaking, real estate broker’ s commissions, title insurance, legal fees and inspection fees are considered selling costs and may reduce taxable capital gain by the amount of the selling costs.
However, every year the tax code can change and your situation may be unique. So the following is provided only as a guide. It is highly recommended that you seek a professional tax consultant to be sure.
Mortgage Interest: Within limits, it may be tax-deductible. For example, a married couple filing jointly can deduct interest payments on a maximum of $ 1 million in mortgage debt secured by a first or second home. Buyers may also be able to deduct some of the interest they paid on a home equity loan or similar line of credit.
Points: Points or origination fees on a home loan paid during purchase are generally tax-deductible in full, for the year in which they were paid.
Business Use: For new buyers who work at home: If a room is used exclusively for business purposes, they may be able to deduct home costs related to that portion, such as a percentage of your insurance and repair costs, and depreciation.
Moving Costs: If you have moved because of a new job, moving costs might be deducted. These can include travel or transportation costs, lodging, and fees for storage of your household goods.
In today’ s economy, it’ s critical that we take advantage of every possible tax break. A home provides a great opportunity to do just that.

Introducing... the“ New” Ardmore Barbershop!

Hi gang, Amanda here, I just had an awesome conversation with the new owners of one of Ardmore’ s oldest and longest running businesses, The Ardmore Barber Shop which has been operating since the1940s. Owners Jeremy Ingle( barber) and his fiancé Jennifer Hutchins who also owns Irvin Roberts salon and spa at 3505 Lawrence Street Clemmons, NC. gave me a few details about their new endeavor.
Since he was a young man, Jeremy knew he wanted to be a barber. Something about the history, the atmosphere, the comradery and fellowship drew Jeremy to this career. A practicing barber for almost 10 years, Jeremy has found not only a passion, but a way of life in cutting / styling hair for his clientele. He spent four years at Washington Park barber shop, and before that worked in Thomasville at Foy’ s barber shop, a shop almost 100 years old.
Jennifer and Jeremy have been looking for a shop to buy or a location to place a new shop for most of 2016, when they came upon the opportunity to buy Ardmore Barber Shop, they knew the time was right to make a move. When asked what the vision was for the shop, Jennifer easily responded,

A R D M O R E

J ANUARY 2017
“ Enhancing the community, building and developing relationships. We want to be the nucleus of the neighborhood.” They both view the barber shop as a piece of nostalgia, an historic hub of man-talk a. k. a. MENGLISH( English only men understand), the place where men can be men.
Jeremy mined the experience of friend Brad Allen to handle the renovations under the direction of Jennifer’ s vision. The finished product is absolutely mind boggling. New floors, shiplap walls, mirrors, counters, cabinets, sinks, bathrooms, TVs, and an old vintage fridge right out of the“ heyday” of A. B. S. Even the seventy-year-old Barber pole outside the shop is all original, except for the motor and glass. The new table in the shop is a great conversation piece as well as a place to share a great conversation. Ten barstools surround the table in the center of the shops foyer. Jeremy wants folks to feel like family, while they converse at the table before and after getting a new fade, hard part or flat top.
Jennifer has a beard oil bar in the shop for your beard grooming needs too! You select your base oil / s as well as the scent / s that you like for a custom oil or choose from their menu prepared oils. Next time you are in the area, stop in and say hello to barbers: Jeremy, Wayne Waters, who owned and ran the shop for the last 46 years and still cuts hair two days a week, Greg Wiles, who has worked with Wayne for the last 30 years, and Paul Young( my husband’ s barber) who has worked at A. B. S. for over a year. All of these men are great at their craft and look forward to serving your hair styling needs.
