We have been hearing about generative AI and large language models for the past few years .
Although consumers and employees have been quick to realize the benefits of these technologies , large companies have been slower to implement these capabilities .
A significant factor which has delayed deployment in large organizations is the shortage of professionals that are experienced at implementing these technologies . Many people have a high-level understanding of the technologies , but few have actually delivered them at a larger scale .
Companies that have implemented these technologies have seen incredible

Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing container shipping by enhancing efficiency and offering valuable insights into shipping processes . One of the primary functions in which AI is best positioned to aid is in identifying and mitigating disruptions . With the ability to analyze various parameters such as origin , destination and historical data , AI can employ predictive models to flag potential disruptions early on . This capability not only provides estimated arrival times but also identifies risks such as strikes or congestion , ultimately facilitating better planning and more informed decision-making .
Additionally , AI-driven decision support systems are transforming how logistics professionals approach their work . These systems can analyze vast amounts of complex data in real time , suggesting alternative routes or modes of transportation when unexpected delays occur . This ability to provide real-time
benefits . Some of the areas that have significantly benefited include the use of generative AI in identifying patterns and finding correlations and turning unstructured data into structured data while facilitating access to information .
When new products are manufactured or shipped , determining the requirements relating to those products is made easier by quickly identifying attributes of the product and seeing what was done in the past with those types of products .
In a world where companies are drowning in data , specifically unstructured data and documents , it is difficult to find a way to organize it . Generative AI platforms can help find correlations between documents and facilitate the retrieval of data needed .
The combination of these two capabilities allows organizations to more readily organize not only their documents , but the data in their documents .
There are a few vendors out there with the necessary skills and platforms to facilitate the deployment of these efficiencies . When selecting a platform
of choice , one needs to ensure that it is well vetted . Companies should be careful to select a platform that will not use their internal data to train public Generative AI models . Corporate data privacy should be a significant factor in selecting a platform to drive these benefits .

Undoubtedly , 2024 can be characterized as the year artificial intelligence reached a tipping point , as experimentation with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT became widespread . But AI is revolutionary for more than just summarizing long articles and producing illustrations at
recommendations significantly speeds up decision-making processes that would otherwise consume considerable time and resources .
Moreover , the integration of generative AI and large language models enhances disruption resolution . Digital assistants can now offer real-time solutions for supply chain issues , thus optimizing the management of logistics challenges . The agility of these AI systems reduces manual effort while expediting the resolution process , allowing businesses to respond to challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy . Our Infor Nexus Control Center and predictive analytics tools , combined with the ability to geofence , have already enabled Allport Cargo Services to deliver significant , tangible value to clients in the early part of this journey . Looking ahead , AI is not just enhancing current practices but also future-proofing the maritime industry . As AI adoption continues to rise exponentially , we can expect significant advancements that may eventually lead to greater autonomy in supply chain operations . In conclusion , AI ’ s role in container shipping is pivotal , as it provides predictive insights , supports decision-making and automates complex processes , thereby transforming the landscape of logistics for the better . The potential of AI in this sector signifies a shift toward a more resilient , efficient and responsive supply chain infrastructure .
