The international import and export trade lane trends over the past 40 years have been built around West to
East trade with China and many other Asia-based countries established as key trading partners , so it was critical for the US to have and established coastal infrastructure for trading . As a result , Mexico has recently overtaken China as the US ’ s largest trading partner . This has created a rapid need to expand the south to north trade infrastructure for cross-border trucking , transloading , warehousing and rail capacity out of Mexico and in major US bordercrossing cities .
