The Need for Affordable Senior Housing

Denver’ s housing market is difficult enough for even the average renter but when you add any level of obstacle, financial, location, demographic, needed amenities or accommodations, etc., it only exacerbates the challenge to find housing for all renters.
Affordable housing is needed for everyone in our region, but especially our senior demographic. Often our elders are faced with limited income, living off of retirement accounts only.
Other varied, individual challenges can also lead to restricted options for safe, stable, and enjoyable homes. The IRS Section 42 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program( LIHTC) can assist with this problem for our Golden Agers. Affordable Senior Housing is available in many areas of Denver and surrounding cities, but we can always use more.
There are specific challenges for our senior demographic; financial likely being number one for most. Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers are limited and not readily available so seniors cannot rely on this as financial
