lifestyle habits and overall well-being.
For resident Judy Ochs, who moved to the active retirement community after a Parkinson’ s diagnosis, the new year represents another chapter in a journey of strength and steady improvement. Guided by senior fitness instructor Matt Payne, Judy participates in a personalized mix of chair fitness, water aerobics and small-group sessions.
“ I’ m 90 % better than when I moved to the community,” Judy said.“ This level of improvement wouldn’ t have been possible if I hadn’ t moved to SpringRidge. Before, I was losing weight, but now I’ m maintaining a healthy diet, and my balance has improved.”
Matt, who teaches more than 120 classes a month and holds advanced certifications in functional aging and Parkinson’ s exercise, sees firsthand how living at SpringRidge shapes residents’ success.
“ When resources are under one roof, it allows for more consistency,” he explained.“ Here, everything is centralized, improving consistency, accountability and adherence to wellness routines.”
As the community looks ahead to 2026, he’ s introducing X-Fit, a new functional-fitness class designed as the next step for residents who have mastered fully seated exercise.
“ This class will offer both seated and standing components,” Matt said.“ It’ s a fantastic graduation for residents progressing in their fitness levels.”
SpringRidge’ s most popular class remains Focus Fitness, a high-engagement, 30-minute seated class offered three times a week. Each day features a different format: functional training, resistance work and seated calisthenics. The variety, Matt says, keeps residents challenged and coming back. Plus, the community’ s robust wellness program has been recognized as one of the top four across Senior Resource Group’ s 21 communities in seven states.
Beyond physical improvements, the emotional impact has been equally powerful.

“ I’ ve noticed a real bond develop among residents,” Matt said.“ They hold each other accountable for showing up, and I’ ve seen improvements in endurance, stability and a sense of accomplishment, especially from those who never participated in an exercise program before.”
Residents often linger after class, talking, laughing and celebrating each other’ s efforts.
“ There is so much kindness and support here at SpringRidge,” Judy added.“ There’ s always something to do and someone to do it with you. It’ s a wonderful way to live!”
Matt also continues to facilitate SpringRidge’ s Parkinson’ s Support Group, held monthly and open to residents, families and the Charbonneau community. The team is expanding its wellness focus to employees as well, with company-sponsored challenges, gym access, low-cost group classes and open-door Q & A sessions with Matt.
With each class, connection and new challenge met, SpringRidge residents are carving out a year filled with strength and renewed well-being.
