Dave has these tips for newer pickleball players:
1. Warm up before play to avoid muscle pulls and, to be more fluid on the court, stretching is especially important.
2. Juggle a ball before leaving your home to enhance eye-hand coordination and train your eyes to focus on the ball during play.
3. On the court, avoid sudden starts, backpedaling, and running too fast for a short shot that’ s between you and the net, to avoid more serious falls and injuries.
4. Remember, you have a partner playing with you, so you don’ t need to

Boys & Girls Aid

Consider giving this season

Giving back during the holiday season is nothing new for those donating to the Boys & Girls Aid. Every December the Cypress Auxiliary collects
LOFFINK items for sports bags for
the kids, a tradition dating back many years. This is made possible with the generosity from the Rotary Club of Wilsonville. With the funds they provide we can purchase various essential and enjoyable items that fill 30 fabric-zipped bags. These bags are filled with a sweatshirt, billfold with $ 25 gift card in it, socks, a soccer ball and water bottle. And, of course, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the dozens of homemade cookies the members provide so each bag includes two dozen of them. As you can guess, the chocolate chip ones always are the first to be devoured.
Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised by the giving we encounter. The Charbonneau Solo Sisters decided to forgo their annual gift exchange to give to an organization in need. They chose to donate $ 25 gift cards from local stores for the kids in go after every ball- keeping the ball in play for longer rallies makes for great points.
5. The social aspect of pickleball is part of the fun, and a big part of a healthier lifestyle.
Sport and exercise are especially important for Charbonneau because of the dominant age group of our residents, and because we added yeararound pickleball to our Sports Center. I hope you will join me and other CCC board members on the courts this winter season. If not pickleball, there are many ways to have an active lifestyle here at Charbonneau: Yoga, tai chi, line dancing, aerobics, body sculpt, paddleboard, Strechercise, chair exercises, ballroom dance, tennis and golf. Visit the CCC Website Calendar for specific dates and times of exercising events.

As most of you know we will not be having the previous fundraising event, The Dinner, aka The Crab and Rib Dinner. In lieu of that The Cyprus Auxiliary of the Boys & Girls Aid will host a fundraising luncheon and you can be sure it won’ t be just any ordinary luncheon. It will take place in the Charbonneau Clubhouse Dining Room on March 13. There will be appetizers, wine, lunch, a raffle, entertainment and much more. The cost is $ 45, of which $ 10, goes to the Boys & Girls Aid. Registration starts on Jan. 12, and is open to everyone, members and non-members. We hope you will attend and support this event, embracing the idea that that“ To Plant a Garden is to Believe in Tomorrow.” Help us give hope to the children and foster families so they have many positive tomorrows. ppo
