Charbonneau Arts celebrates 2024 successes
Happy New Year ! We are still basking in the glow of many successes in 2024 and looking forward to more in 2025 . We are grateful to have the support of the community and the resources provided by the Charbonneau Country Club .

Transitions : Our new year is a bit clouded by board transitions . As what always happens with volunteer boards , ours is dealing with the retirement of two longest-standing members , Elaine Swyt and Eric Hoem , and our wonderful secretary , Rose Mason . Thank you to Rose , Eric and Elaine for their years of leadership and service on the Board of Directors of CAA . We have not yet filled their positions . We are looking to
add people to our board , as well as to the organizing committees that plan the Arts Festival , the Music Stage Series and a new music festival . If you have experience that can be applied to support for the arts in Charbonneau , please contact Cathi McLain ( contact information is in the directory ). You don ’ t have to be an artist , just someone with skills and enthusiasm . We especially need people with computer skills .
Grants given to teachers : The CAA Board recently approved a record $ 20,000 in cash grants to fine art teachers — $ 10,000 to Wilsonville High School and $ 10,000 to Canby High School . Cathi McLain , CAA incoming president , will present the $ 10,000 grant at a Wilsonville school student assembly , and will announce and acknowledge awards for the prize-winning student art works displayed at the October festival at Charbonneau .
Grants awarded to CAA : In addition to raising funds through events and donations , CAA actively seeks out grants from governmental sources and foundations . The most recent success was Cathi McLain and Alice Galloway , who submitted a request to the Wilsonville Arts ,
Appraise & Insure Without Leav
Culture and Heritage Commission . Cathi made a presentation in December , and the commission awarded a $ 10,000 grant towards the development of a Wilsonville Music Festival @ Charbonneau in 2025 ( tentatively Aug . 2 and 3 ).
Wilsonville Festival of the Arts @ Charbonneau : Save the dates Oct . 10 , 11 , 12 . We are looking forward to another successful event in 2025 . Most artists and artisans have said they plan to return this year , and we have a wonderful group of volunteers ready to begin planning the event .
Student and professional musicians play together at the recent Holiday Concert in Canby : On Dec . 6 , a large crowd of Charbonneau residents joined student parents and music fans at the Canby High School Performing Arts Center to enjoy performances by the Canby High School Jazz Band ( 2nd place at state in 2024 ) and the Big Horn Brass ensemble ( 40 years of performing throughout NW venues ). The event included the premier of a new composition commissioned by CAA that combined both groups on stage together . The Jazz Band students sat alongside the Big Horn Brass professionals for a prior
rehearsal as well as on the night of the concert . It was an educational experience the students will likely never forget . Both groups garnered standing ovations from the enthusiastic audience .
Music Stage Series : The organizing committee , led by Alice Galloway , has scheduled a great lineup of fundraising concerts in 2025 .
April 27 : VoxaNova Trio plays light-jazz and Bossa Nova emphasizing beautiful melodies , lush harmonies , exotic rhythms and original arrangements .
May 18 : “ Truckin ’ in Nashville ” a special narrated audio-visual review of all the best artists in country western music in the ‘ 60s and ‘ 70s .
Sept . 28 : Stephanie Schneidermann is hands down one of the most diverse artists in the Pacific Northwest and creates sonic explorations of folk , Americana , trip-hop and pop .
Oct . 23 : Lloyd Jones plays blues for Dancing ; enough said .
Dec . 14 : Holiday Concert TBD , Alice ’ s team is working on something special for Charbonneau .
We hope you will add these CAAsponsored events to your calendars and watch for the details during the year .
