Montana Macrie has a long history of experience around blueberries and her family ’ s farm . Now , she ’ s taking that experience , knowledge and passion to bring her own product to the blueberry game .
Macrie ’ s family has had their roots set in Hammonton for decades , with Macrie Brothers Blueberry Farm , which started in 1953 . Now , nearly 70 years later , Macrie is expanding her family ’ s history in a different direction .
Macrie ’ s company , Blu Tana LLC just recently launched their flagship product , jellied blueberry sauce and it ’ s a project that has been in the works for years .
“ Me and my dad had talked about it in 2015 because he had come up with the idea years before and then finally I got out of high school in 2017 and I was like ‘ you know what I ’ m going to mess around with this recipe and try to figure out
what I can do with it ,’” Macrie said .
The recipe took time to develop , and as a result Marcie ’ s jellied blueberry sauce is a versatile product that can be enjoyed in endless ways throughout the year .
“ It has the consistency of a cranberry sauce , but it ’ s low in sugar , it has all clean products and there ’ s a lot of other ways it can be used . It ’ s not just a holiday sauce or essential . It can be used every day ,” Macrie said . “ I ’ ve recently been mixing it up in different drinks . I love putting it on bagels with cream cheese , on the side of a chicken dish or even salmon .”
The blueberries are locally sourced from farms in Hammonton and throughout New Jersey . Part of the inspiration for the product was understanding just how many perfectly good berries go to waste every season at farms all over . This product puts those berries to use in a delicious fashion .
The sauce also comes along with the health benefits that come with eating blueberries .
“ Not only is it a delicious compliment , it also has many great health benefits as compared to the processed jellied sauces at the grocery stores . Our jellied blueberry sauce is made with the finest ingredients , using locally grown blueberries that are free of high fructose corn syrup , artificial coloring and flavorings ,” Macrie said .
The sauce has been a hit across Hammonton since its release and while Macrie is thrilled to be hearing such positive feedback , she is even happier to see people enjoying it .
“ It feels good . It ’ s cool to see other people enjoying it and really liking it because I think when you put a new product out there , you want everyone to like it anyway but just hearing the feedback feels really good . Especially now , it ’ s a hard time building a business , so getting all that feedback and support feels really good and it ’ s exciting and I hope soon that I can add more products to Blu Tana ,” Macrie said .
