LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear members of SJGCC ,
The golf course is in pretty good shape heading into winter . We have pretty much wrapped up our large applications for the season . Going forward we will be doing some spot spraying of winter weeds to try and keep the golf course clean . We recently did a bayonet tine aerification to the greens followed by a light topdressing . There should have been be no noticeable disruption to the green surfaces . We also raised our height of cut going into the winter to give the plant a little more leaf blade and protection the next few of months through dormancy .
The overseed on the range tee is coming in nicely . We are seeding divots on a weekly basis to try and maintain a decent stand of grass on the range tee . The picture below shows the difference in wear on a tee surface dependent on the pattern of divots . When we lose large areas of turf due to concentrated divot patterns it makes it extremely difficult to maintain the tee surface and keep it playable throughout the offseason . Going forward on course we will continue small projects and cleaning and spaying of cordgrass . It has been an interesting , challenging ( in a good way ), and exciting 2021 for me hear at St . Johns and I am looking forward to next year !
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Maintenance Department ,
Thanks ,
Mike O ’ Malley
Superintendent
