for a while so it wasn ’ t it wasn ’ t too difficult anymore . I don ’ t have a gym membership anyways ; I do everything basically on my own and I have a small gym in our garage which is minimal , but I really don ’ t need that much . I was just staying active on the dirt bike , trials bike , and bicycles for the most part and doing some stuff in the house or in the garage basically to stay fit .
I have a like a PT guy I talk with here and there ; he just started setting me up with stuff . I really need to do more with rehabilitating my knee and the base of my right leg because the muscle density does not match my other knee or my other leg at all still .
My workouts are mostly cardio-based . When I ’ m actually doing stuff with weights the only thing I ’ m doing with my arms is push-ups and pull-ups , nothing else . I do a decent amount of core stuff because it ’ s the basis of everything ; what i ’ ve really upped this year that I ’ ve never done before is just a lot of strength training to get back to where I was and even better than what I was before . It ’ s tricky with that because your legs are so sore ; you can ’ t do that kind of stuff leading up to races . With the kind of weird sporadic schedule of never having true offseason , I started doing that stuff again to try and build for next year .
You mentioned that you started cramping up at the Red Bull Override ; do you think that had to do with issues with your nutrition or water intake ?
I think just water intake leading up to the race . Cramping mostly just comes down to water and I don ’ t think what you eat the night before will have that much of an effect . I didn ’ t have any electrolyte powder in my CamelBak because I just hate having to clean it out , and that taste is in there forever after the race ; I think having my normal Hammer Nutrition stuff in my pack helped me prevent that .
I definitely slowed down pretty heavily when [ the cramping ] started kicking in ; it was around the four-hour mark which I feel is kind of the limit for me . In America , all of our Hard Enduros are like sprints , they ’ re over and done with . Mario Roman just got done doing Red Bull Romaniacs , which is four to seven hours a day , so I think he definitely had the upper hand on what kind of pace to hold for that amount of time .
The last lap I went out and I took two Advil and had more food and I felt like I rebounded for sure , but I was pretty I was in a bad spot there for a while .
