You mentioned that you ’ ve had to keep your trials training secret in the past , since the brands you were riding with didn ’ t have a trials model . With Sherco having such a big trials market , are we going to see you at any trials events ?
If there ’ s a National trials event close and I have to travel super far you know they have one in California or west coast I definitely want to go and ride it . I was planning on going to one this year and then the whole thing got cancelled .
I have no current drive to put the effort in to do a whole series and if I want to , it ’ ll be hard for me to be one of the top guys to now debating if I even want to ride pro or just ride expert . It ’ s hard to take a step back . I need to practice more ; I ’ m not practicing enough on the trials bike .
How about a Pat Smage vs Cody Webb competition ?
[ laughs ] I think it ’ d be fun ; we ’ ve talked about doing like a game of , I don ’ t know what you would call it “ BIKE ,” where you kind of challenge each other .
I thought it ’ d be fun to do like a promotional video where I ’ m on a dirt bike and Pat ’ s on the trials bike and just do different things . I just hope it builds more awareness ; I think it ’ d be really fun to do a project like that . Well , we keep talking about doing it , it ’ s just a matter of making it happen .
How have you been keeping up with your training and strength & conditioning ?
It ’ s been tricky to stay on top of everything with COVID-19 . In the beginning in California , everything was pretty strict ; I definitely was riding a lot less , and if I did go riding , I would take my van because it ’ s unmarked and it looks like I was an “ essential worker .” I was doing a lot of like hiking and trail building to stay fit , which is a pretty big workout if you ’ re hiking up the side of mountains cutting stuff out . After a while , everything started ramping up and I started doing a lot of more Hard Enduro stuff . Then things kind of opened up quite a bit there
