Cricket is another sport the Rwandan authorities have been developing through sizeable investments in infrastructure , training and the hosting of international tournaments .
The Gahanga International Cricket Stadium , the first of its kind in the region , was inaugurated in 2017 and currently hosts the Kwibuka Women ’ s T20 Tournament , an annual tournament organized by the local cricket governing body ( RCA ) in honor of victims of the genocide .
Hosts Rwanda , Mali , Uganda and Tanzania participated in last year ’ s edition won by Tanzania .
In 2018 , the Kicukiro Oval , its nickname , was selected to host the matches in the 2018 – 19 ICC
World Twenty20 Africa Qualifier Eastern Sub- Region group . GISAGARA INTERNATIONAL GYMNASIUM
The one million dollar facility was entirely financed by the district of Gisagara in the Southern Province of Rwanda .
Opened in November 2016 , it is the country ’ s first internationally recognized volleyball gymnasium , and home to two-time champions of the National Volleyball League , Gisagara Volleyball Club . The venue also hosts basketball matches and serves as centre for talent detection programs .
Also to be incorporated in the Sports City is a golf course which is being upgraded from 9 hole to 18 , as well as tennis courts and bicycles lanes , according to officials who hope to attract more people to the city of more than one million inhabitants which is already home to other irresistible side attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial , Kigali Convention Centre and Caplaki Crafts Village .
An aquatic center with swimming pools and other recreational amenities are under construction in the sports hub .
