L ETTER FROM THE EDITOR
William Faulkner once said, “The work never matches the dream
of perfection the artist has to start with.”
Authors want to write perfect prose, a perfect book. I don’t know
if any author ever thinks they’ve accomplished this. Writers
always want to add a few more words or delete a few, thinking it
will make it a little better.
The authors in our March/April magazine did write the words,
‘The End’ and published some wonderful stories for readers. We
will introduce you to their new works. You will also meet authors
who will share their trials, struggles and their accomplishments bringing new books into
the world; like a birthing process.
You will meet Reed Farrel Coleman, a fantastic writer of Mystery, Thriller & Suspense.
He was also the author chosen to continue writing the Robert B. Parker Jesse Stone
series. You will learn his secrets to writing books that garner awards. He is a three-time
recipient of the Shamus Award for Best PI Novel of the Year; won the Audie, Macavity,
Barry, and Anthony Awards.
You’ll find authors sharing their writing techniques–plotting, creating and developing
characters, and writing dialogue. Some of the authors share how they took their life
experience of hurt and tragedy and turned it around–writing a book–to help others.
Spring brings us new birth, and we are bringing you a few new authors to meet in this
issue.
As we read books we enjoy, let’s remember to thank the author for the book they’ve
created and let them know it did entertain or encourage us. Tell them on their Facebook
page, their blog, and their website and leave them a good review on Amazon. It is very
heartwarming to an author to hear from readers who enjoy their books.
As always, Southern Writers Magazine is a labor of love for us. We pray each issue brings
you joy, in meeting the authors and is informative in writing techniques.
Happy Writing and Reading!
