How was the tuna fishing
in 2015?
The tuna fishing started out
pretty good on the east
side in early summer. Then
around mid-July, the river
rose up which is unusual
and for the next month,
tuna fishing was hard.
It started to straighten up
towards the end of August
and the fall has been good
overall.
How are fishing (techniques) for tuna different
from other pelagic
species?
Tuna is more bait centric
compared to other pelagic
species where trolling is
often the best bet or at
least comparable to fishing
natural baits.
What should anglers look
for when targeting tuna?
Personal best was a 225 we
caught behind a shrimp
boat in 240ft of water.
What do anglers do
WRONG when tuna
fishing?

What should anglers look
for when targeting tuna?
A light current is generally
best to fish. In the fall the
fish can be as close as three
miles on out to the
floaters. General summer
fishing, I'm looking for clean
green water in over 1000ft
by rigs.

How to fish the
RIGHT side of a RIG
• Target yellowfin on the side
current or on the down-current
side of the rig.
• Most of the time the up current is easy to tell as you will
just drift into the rig but when
there \
