" Did he study much?" " A good deal." " What?" " Hindostanee." " And what did you do meantime?" " I learnt German, at first." " Did he teach you?" " He did not understand German." " Did he teach you nothing?" " A little Hindostanee." " Rivers taught you Hindostanee?" " Yes, sir."
