Nerjamar ’ s annual Christmas fundraiser
Well , yet again Nerjamar has been overwhelmed by people ’ s generosity ! Your donations , either through their drop-off locations in Nerja , or through their GoFundMe page , helped so many local families this year . New toys were distributed by Cruz Roja ( Red Cross ) and
Calle Granada to a beautifully renovated and spacious new location for their workshops , exhibitions and art classes . ANEDA will become a neighbour to the Centro Cultural in the heart of Nerja . It has four huge windows , from floor to ceiling , letting in natural daylight , ideal for painting and creating . Passersby can look in and see all the paintings and activities .
“ Our aim is to promote art in the region . We organize exhibitions in and around Nerja , hold drawing and painting classes for children and adults and organise workshops ,” says Laura Viqueira Niel , leader of the ANEDA group . “ At the moment we have 36 members , old and young , national and non-perishable food items distributed by Caritas Nerja . Nerjamar asked us to give a big shout out to Donna Monroe ’ s hair salon and Cullen ’ s supermarkets for their collections ! You made a huge difference to people ’ s Christmas and Three King ’ s holidays last year , so a huge thank you to everyone !
Belen de Viviente 2021
Last month saw the transformation of Plaza de Andalucia in Nerja into a living nativity scene .
The event started in 2016 as a joint programme between Nerja town council and the local neighbourhood association Barriada de las Protegidas .
Every December , since its inception , the neighbourhood becomes Bethlehem with dozens of local volunteers creating the scene .
December 19 saw hundreds of visitors throughout the day taking a theatrical tour in which more than 120 residents of the neighbourhood become contemporary characters of the time . The representation is divided into three sectors : entry , market and birth . The latter located next to a realistic river where , among other animals , a duck roams freely , which has become one of the great attractions of the day , especially for the little ones .
New home for ANEDA
Last month ANEDA ( Art Association Nerja ) moved just down the road on
international , painters and sculptors , who all work in different mediums , sizes and styles . A wonderful mix ! We are supported by the local council .”
“ Even though ANEDA has grown steadily and we welcomed 11 new members this year , we still are looking for more . We are all amateurs but with a passion for art . Like minded people can call me , I speak English , French and Spanish of course ! My phone number is 677 637 997 . Everybody is welcome .” The first member to exhibit in the new ANEDA home was Carmen Aros , a Chilean abstract artist . Her exhibition was on until the end of December , followed by Nadia Ayoub who will be exhibiting until January 15 . Every two weeks another ANEDA artist will exhibit here .
Royal British Legion
Nerja Branch have written to say : “ Last year saw us yet again in the middle of a global pandemic . As a proud branch of the Royal British Legion we coped extremely well . This is entirely due to our members and supporters who never fail to amaze us with their generosity . In 2021 we raised approximately € 9000 for the Poppy Appeal . An excellent result for a small branch . Thank you all for your donations and support . Moving forward we are delighted to welcome Dennis Bolsover as our new President and Sylvia le Duc as Secretary . I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy , healthy and prosperous 2022 .” Eddie Bowe , Chairman .
