Partners in sustainability
Mars Wrigley Australia has a three-pillar strategy when it comes to packaging – eliminate and reuse, redesign for circularity and close the loop. This aligns closely with Costco’ s goal to optimise recycled content for all packaging. In fiscal year 2023, over 3700 tonnes of recycled plastic and paper * was implemented across 56 Kirkland Signature items globally. Costco continues to encourage suppliers to incorporate recycled content to reduce the use of virgin materials and support the circular economy.
“ Costco’ s business model is so unique, which gives us the opportunity to collaborate on exciting initiatives to deliver variety and value to Costco’ s shoppers,” says West.“ There are many synergies that we share, particularly when it comes to value creation and sustainability.”
In aid of this, Mars Wrigley Australia is a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation, as well as being signatory to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation; a non-profit devoted to building a circular economy by creating a better system that can help fight climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
“ We have an ambition of a world where none of our packaging ever becomes waste,” adds West.“ We are also looking beyond packaging, and looking at more sustainable options for our displays, and continuing to invest in our responsible sourcing projects including Cocoa For Generations, Moo’ ving Dairy Forward and Fresh Futures.”
