Sustainability update
Costco has made a range of sustainability improvements to warehouse operations over the past few years.
• Recycling: Our operational recycling initiative includes cardboard, shrink wrap, tyres, organic waste, metal, timber and paper, as well as household programs for members for hard-to-dispose-of items such as automotive batteries.
• Energy and emissions: Seven local warehouses boast solar panels to help reduce reliability on grid-supplied energy, while also reducing Costco’ s carbon footprint.
• Waste reduction: To help fight against hunger and reduce waste going to landfill, Costco provides food donations to non-profits. This reduces waste, while helping vulnerable communities and individuals.
• Water: Water monitoring devices are installed in our warehouses to enable live monitoring of usage, allowing operators to detect and fix issues in real-time.
