3. Mental health benefits
The results of a study published in June last year show that compared to doing no sport and even participating in individual sports, playing in a team has mental health benefits for children. Kids who were team players had a lower risk of depression and anxiety as well as problems with attention. Earlier research shows the advantages are long lasting too, providing mental health benefits into adulthood. Missed out on team sports as a child? Don’ t panic. Research also shows that people who join a team sport at any age enjoy better mental health and are more resilient as a result.
