Summer is right around the corner – time to put away your skis in favour of hiking boots, golf clubs and maybe even a surfboard. If the warmer weather and longer days have you itching to get outdoors, here are a few fun activities to keep you moving.

Call of the wild
There are 726 national parks in Australia and they boast some of the most stunning landscapes in the country. Chances are a few of them aren’ t too far from your home.“ Exploring local trails is one of the most enjoyable forms of exercise,” says Lauren Cramer, a full-time personal trainer and running coach.
Are you ready to go but not sure what’ s nearby? Check out AllTrails( Alltrails. com), a site and app that offer locations, ratings and photos for trails all over the country. You can also check social media for local trail and hiking groups, which often share recent updates on trail conditions and recommendations for must-do hikes in your area.
Surfing Australia
If you love the water, consider surfing lessons. Costco member Tony Silvagni, a professional surfer and owner of the Tony Silvagni Surf School, says learning to surf is both challenging and enjoyable.“ It’ s a sport that brings you close to nature on beautiful sandy beaches with warm water temperatures and plenty of sunshine.”
It can also be a physically demanding sport and it helps to be in good condition for paddling, diving under waves and getting up on the surfboard.
At Tony’ s school they start with five minutes of land instruction and the rest of the lesson is done in the water. All beginners start out on soft-top foam boards that float well and are easier to paddle into the waves.“ They’ re also soft and forgiving, which helps since you can expect to fall a lot when first learning to ride the waves,” Tony says.
