Charbonneau couple begins new chapter at SpringRidge

Active retirees Katie Janssen ’ s and Duane Bergevin ’ s desire for a maintenance-free lifestyle eventually led them to SpringRidge at Charbonneau . Having comfortably settled into their new home within the senior living community , they are now scripting a new chapter in their lives — one marked by enriching family connections and the blossoming of newfound friendships .

“ We toured several communities but felt SpringRidge would be the ideal place ,” said Katie . “ We attend church in Aurora , so it was nice to be within close proximity . Plus , everyone was so friendly !”

Duane also owned a home in Charbonneau , and it was important to be near family and longtime friends with little interruption to their day-to-day lives .

“ Our children are also close by , so being able to spend quality time with the great-grandchildren is wonderful ,” she added . “ And , with all the cooking and cleaning taken care of , we can see our family more often .”

Katie especially enjoys the community ’ s onsite restaurant , The Charbonneau Room . She looks forward to the chef-prepared options and dining at her convenience , thanks to SpringRidge ’ s flexible 12-hour dining . Meanwhile , Duane , a veteran and former airline pilot , takes advantage of the complementary social membership to the Charbonneau Country Club , sharing weekly rounds with his son .

Though downsizing from a home filled with memories posed its challenges , Katie attests that the payoff has been well worth it .

“ It ’ s great not having to worry about anything ,” she said . “ We call for maintenance , and everything is handled . We don ’ t even have to be home .”

The lock-and-leave lifestyle at SpringRidge aligns seamlessly with the couple ’ s love of travel . They spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Montana and said it was refreshing to immerse themselves in the trip without worrying if their home was safe .

Beyond spending time with family and traveling , Katie and Duane are savoring the new experiences and bonds with their neighbors . They enjoy the Friday socials featuring live entertainment , and Katie has been busy learning to play Mahjong .

“ We truly enjoy our neighbors ,” said Katie , a former school district employee . “ It ’ s a lovely place to call home , filled with excellent people and activities . We ’ d encourage anyone considering a move to SpringRidge to do it sooner rather than later .”
