Firemen are known for rescuing kittens from trees . How about saving a puppy from the riverbank ? Recently , firemen from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue ’ s Truck 56 were called to Charbonneau to help rescue Pepper , an 11-month-old Cavalier King Charles / Poodle mix who had fallen about 30 feet down the embankment along the river . One of the heroes enthusiastically repelled down to rescue a very frightened , but grateful dog . Thanks again to these amazing human beings .

quality of life . If a fall happens when you are alone , the risk of life-threatening consequences go WAY UP . Threats to your well-being can be lessened by being mindful of the risks and consistently having an emergency communications device with you whenever you are alone , whether in your home , walking to the mailbox or going out to the garage , even if “ just for a minute !”

Sunshine Service
By JOAN VEDDER
We are prepared to serve you this year
Our “ theme ” this month is “ Looking Forward ” — sounds easy doesn ’ t it ?
We all look forward to a New Year , another birthday , perhaps a vacation looming ahead .
VEDDER Obviously we can ’ t relive our past and the present can feel hectic at times , but it ’ s pure joy to look forward ! I ’ ve never been much for New Year ’ s resolutions , because let ’ s face it ... how many of us stick to them ?
But maybe instead of trying to lose weight , how about just maintaining where we are ? Maybe just clean one closet instead of saying you will clean them all . How about the intangible promises like being kinder , volunteering for something necessary to those who are ‘ lesser than ,’ expanding your own boundaries . I can think of countless projects to look forward to ! ( And no , I won ’ t paint my house again .)
Our volunteer group of Sunshine gals are fully prepared to serve you in 2023 with whatever you need to keep you ambulatory , safe and secure in your own home . We ’ ve got a plethora of equipment and you ’ d be surprised how fast we make it happen ! We have even been known to deliver if necessary ! The loan agreement lets you keep things for a reasonable amount of time to recover completely , and saves you money from purchasing things you might only need temporarily .
While we appreciate equipment donations , we are quite full at the present so you would need to give me a call to see if I can find a home for such items . I do have a few sources that are grateful for these things , but it ’ s a time-consuming task for me sometimes .
When you read this you ’ ve already had Christmas , and I hope it was a good , healthy one . The New Year looms , and is full of promise !
