William B. Bushong of the White House Historical Association will give a talk titled “Forged by Fire: Dolley Madison, the President’s House, and the War of 1812,” and discuss Dolley Madison’s leadership and courage during the British invasion of Washington, including her heroic role in rescuing Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of George Washington, which still hangs in the White House today.
