elly’s Best Room, where James Madison’s mother, Nelly
Conway Madison, entertained her guests, was furnished in
January 2016 to show the way it likely appeared early in Madison’s
retirement. Using documentary, archaeological, and physical
evidence, we furnished the space with a combination of Madison-
family objects, representative antiques, and reproductions.
