The origin of the cable knitted sweater was a rugged fishermen garment.
The knit is both decorative and makes the garment more insulating.
Different clans used their variation of the pattern. When knitted from
untreated wool (with preserved natural oils) the sweater was almost
water resistant.
The iconic sweater was however adopted by the preppy Ivy League
gentlemen where wool was switched for the cooler cotton. Our Treadville
sweater is a one of the Ivy League style sweaters.
