Championship- Donetsk 2013

Jamaica ended the championship topping the table with 6 gold and 2 bronze medals followed by Kenya 4 gold 3 silver and 4 bronze. Jamaica’ s medals came from 6 male athletes and two female athletes 7 from the track and one from the field events.
Gold medalists were record breaking:
• Jaheel Hyde in the 110 metres hurdles;
• Martin Manley 400 metres;
• Marvin Thompson 400 metres hurdles;
• Michael O’ Hara 200 metres;
• Yanique Thompson 100 metres hurdles
• The record breaking boys medley team consisting of Jaheel Hyde, Michael O’ Hara, Waseem Williams and Martin Manley.
Bronze Medalists were:
• Tiffany James- 400metres
• Christoff Bryan- High jump.
This was Jamaica’ s best ever showing at these championships and shows that Jamaica has a bright future to come.

Special Feature: Future Stars- Michael O’ Hara

This young star has had crowds cheering from the tender age of three, when he won his first medal in Smurfs Kindergarten 50metres race and was crowned champion boy. A few years later, the promising athlete started Half-Way-Tree Primary School where his brilliance continued. The shining star continued his journey of dominance at Calabar High School. He follows the footsteps of another Calabar legend, Ramone‘ Batman’ Mckenzie, who also attended Half- Way-Tree Primary School. His accolades include class 3 gold medals in the 100 metres and 110 metres hurdles in the 2011 Grace / ISSA Athletic Boys and Girls Championship. O’ Hara was named champion boy for the championship after massing 23 points for his school coming in at 4th place in the 200 metres final. He was selected to participate on the JAAA’ s team for the CARIFTA games U-17 section. O’ Hara was also a part of the championship record 4 x100 relay team for the CAC juniors in El Salvador in 2012. Has been an affluent part of Calabar’ s winning champs team winning medals in class 2- 100, 200 metres, 110 metres hurdles and was a part of the relay teams which finished 2nd in the class 2 4x100 metres and the 4x400 open team. O’ Hara has also been recognized in Jamaica’ s CARIFTA and world youth championship team for this year, obtaining gold in the 200 metres and medley relay and placing 4th in the 100 metres.
