We’re starting off this thrilling year with a thrilling book . . . Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer! Artemis is a criminal genius, a former millionaire with the highest I.Q. in Europe. But he’s only twelve years old! His bodyguard, Butler, is a tactical mastermind. He can also cook and use martial arts and an arsenal of hundreds of weapons to protect his master, Artemis. Captain Holly Short is an LEPrecon officer and an elf. The LEP is the fairy version of the CIA. Her four legged friend Foaly is a tech genius. He single handedly developed all of the LEP technology. Holly’s boss, Root, has a fuse shorter than the time it takes him to fire an incompetent officer. Artemis wants to regain his millionaire status once more, so he decides to kidnap Holly. Bound by her own laws, she can’t leave the house until Artemis is either dead or gives her permission because she needs it to enter or exit. The only way to get him to say that is through gold. Lots of it. Will Artemis succeed? Will the LEP triumph? Find out in Artemis Fowl! Although this book is fast paced, the plot is clear. The writing on the bottom of the page is Gnommish, the language spoken by fairies. There are certain clues in the book that could lead you to the code. If you get stuck, you can go to http://www.artemisfowl.com/ to decifer it.
