“ Jaxport is an integral part of the transportation network in northeast Florida , and a key part of that network is our interstate and rail system ,” said Robert Peek , chief commercial officer at Jaxport .
The network is made up of two major interstates — I-95 and I-10 — that intersect in Jacksonville near the port . Additionally , I-95 bisects the port ’ s two largest cargo terminals . Jacksonville also boasts an extensive rail network with three railroads — CSX , Norfolk Southern and Florida East Coast Railway .
The city ’ s population of about 1.5 million people provides a booming workforce , with approximately 26,000 of the 145,000 residents eligible to work filling roles directly or indirectly linked to local port business .
