The Jacksonville Independent School District has an enrollment of 4,905 students on eight campuses ; Jacksonville High School , Jacksonville Middle School , Nichols Intermediate , East Side Elementary , Fred Douglass Elementary , Joe Wright Elementary , West Side Elementary and the Compass Center . The Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary seeks to help qualified individuals by equipping them for Christian service and leadership roles . The seminary supports the educational needs of the Baptist Missionary Association of America and other groups who share a like

commitment to the authority of Scripture . The BMA Seminary began in 1955 as a division of Jacksonville College . In 1957 , the seminary held its first fall semester classes on the current seminary grounds located at 1530 East Pine Street in Jacksonville . The seminary graduated its first class of students in May 1958 . BMA Seminary has grown from an average enrollment of dozens

to around 150 credit-seeking students each semester prior to COVID . Students typically represent approximately 15 states , 15 foreign countries , and ten different Christian denominations . An additional 80 students regularly take courses for non-credit each semester as well . Pastors , teachers , laypersons and others can enroll in courses for personal enrichment . The seminary currently offers

six academic degrees : Associate of Divinity , Bachelor of Arts in Religion , Master of Arts ( Religion ), Master of Arts ( Pastoral Theology ), Master of Arts in Church Ministries , and the Master of Divinity .
