Healthcare in Jacksonville has been 100
years in the making, thanks to a partner-
ship that lead to the creation of the UT
Health East Texas health system.
In March 2018, the former East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System and The
University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler merged, and as a result, “that level of care
and serving the community has been a standard at the hospital for a century,” said Allison
Pollan, director of communications for UT Health East Texas.
• The hospital forged a partnership with
Jacksonville ISD in early 2019, serving as
the school district’s chief partner. UT Health
provides use of athletic trainers, while the
scoreboard at the newly renovated Historic
Tomato Bowl features the UT Health logo.
• UT Health Jacksonville is the only full-ser-
vice hospital in the city, and offers full labor
and delivery services for expectant moth-
ers.
• The hospital’s Family Birthplace also offers
childbirth preparation classes that helps
prepare new mothers for what to expect
from their last trimester of pregnancy,
through labor and delivery, post-partum
and the basics of breastfeeding.
• To better serve area women for their health-
care needs, a new OB-GYN joined the staff
at UT Health East Texas Physicians in Jack-
sonville.
• UTHET recently partnered with Premier
Health to offer urgent care clinics in the re-
gion. These clinics will be accredited by the
20
Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce | 2020
Urgent Care Association, certifying each
patient receives the highest level of care.
• Overall, UT Health East Texas’s extensive
regional network includes 10 hospitals,
along with a variety of clinics, regional reha-
bilitation facilities, freestanding emergency
centers, regional home health services, an
EMS fleet with more than 45 ambulances
and four helicopters.
• UT Health East Texas operates a compre-
hensive seven-trauma center care network,
including the region’s only Level 1 trauma
facility.
• As a partner with The University of Texas
System, UT Health East Texas is able to pro-
vide patients with access to leading-edge
research and clinical therapies.
• The nationally recognized UT System also
includes UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in
Houston, UT Southwestern Medical Center
in Dallas, as well as three other major uni-
versity medical centers located throughout
the state.
