Nathan is a farmer and a single parent who believes he has a firm grip on life – his teenage son, Johnny; his farm; his community; and his role in it. But all those certainties are upended when Nathan begins to confront the dark forces seeping into his rural community.
Johnny is having trouble at school and is getting dragged into the world of county lines drug dealing. Nathan also repeatedly sees a drone flying over his land. As the encounters become more frequent, he initially thinks it could be to do with the testing facility nearby, but could it be the county lines gangs tormenting him? And are the testing facility and the drugs operation entirely separate? Can Nathan hold it together and defend his way of life? And when the police won’ t help, what is Nathan prepared to do to keep his family and community safe?

Family Liaison Officer Kat Crichton is given the opportunity of her career when she is assigned to the murder investigation of Mary Maclean, matriarch of the affluent Maclean family who was tragically shot in their castle home. But for Kat, the idea of returning to the home that she fled as a teenager fills her with dread. A decade earlier, she got caught up in the twisted web of the Maclean family’ s secrets, and was banished from the island by influential and powerful patriarch Douglas.
When Kat finds inconsistencies with Douglas’ s account of what happened the night his wife was killed, she starts to suspect that he may have pulled the trigger. Told across two timelines, The Island follows Kat’ s quest to bring Douglas to justice, and the events of a New Year’ s Eve party ten years ago which may hold the answer to Mary’ s murder.
