Nina is a young , talented palaeontologist working at a natural history museum in Scotland . Her life is steady and calm , and as a woman with autism , this works perfectly for her . She adores living with her best friend and sister , Evie , and ploughs a lot of her energy into her love of dinosaurs . However , when Evie rushes into an engagement after only six weeks and makes Nina her maid of honour , Nina is floored . Forced to reconcile with her sister ’ s impulsive decision , Nina grapples with what this new challenge means . Triggered by the death of her best friend Kel , talented photographer Jacs Gould returns to her coastal hometown to deal with the tragedy ’ s consequences . When Jacs discovers Kel ’ s phone and a series of calls to a mystery number on the night of her death she becomes determined to learn the truth of what happened to Kel , believing she has suffered at the hands of this mystery man . Jacs throws herself out as bait , beginning an investigation that becomes an obsessive , impulsive pursuit .
