The Iroquois West Raider baseball squad ended their season on September 17, 2016 in regional play against Bishop McNamara. Even though it was a disappointing loss, the team has many reasons to be proud.

The team’s overall record this season was 10-3, and the Raiders had a 5-2 conference record which put them in the Twin County’s third place spot. According to Coach Rhodes, this is the best conference finish the Raiders have seen in 13 years. He said every conference win is great, but the ones that stood out this season were the wins over Watseka and Prairie Central. This was the first time the Raiders beat the PC Hawks since 2007.

Coach Rhodes indicated, “This is the most patient team I’ve ever coached.” This quality brought the team success at the plate. Raider batters made opposing pitchers throw the pitches they wanted to hit and work to get them out. This approach at the plate allowed the Raiders to score multiple runs throughout the season and gave them better chances to win. Other factors which added to the Raiders’ winning record were solid defensive play and numerous pitchers who could provide quality innings each game.
